Beef, Chili
1 lb. ground beef ( 500 g)
1 onion chopped
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup chopped celery(125 mL)
1/2 cup chopped sweet green pepper
1 clove garlic minced
1 can Kidney beans,
drained (19 oz/540 mL)
1 can tomatoes,
drained and chopped (19 oz)
1 can tomato sauce (14 oz/398 mL)
1 teaspoon chili powder (15 mL)
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar (15 mL)
1/2 teaspoon salt (2 mL)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
In 12 -cup (3 L) casserole or bowl, combine beef, onion, and oil. Cook at medium heat until meat is browned. Blend well to crumble beef. Add celery, green pepper, garlic, beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, sugar, salt, and oregano. Stir well and continue cooking at low temperature for about an hour. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
